Step One: Do What You Can

Doing what you can to help solve global warming involves taking action in three areas:

  1. transportation;
  2. home; and
  3. church and society.

In each area our goal is to achieve reductions in the global warming pollution you create. This means reducing the burning of fossil fuels such as coal that generates electricity and gasoline from oil that powers our vehicles.

By picking action items below you agree to work towards implementing these actions over the course of a year.

A. Transportation

Making sound transportation choices is the number one way we as individuals in the U.S. can reduce our global warming pollution.
Instructions: Check at least three of the first five items, OR one of the next two.

Pick Three...

Keep your tires properly inflated, air filters changed, and vehicle tuned up. (more info)
Reduce your driving. Combine trips and carpoo to work, school, and church. (more info)
Walk or bike more. (more info)
Slow down. Avoid fast accelerations. Avoid going over 60 mph. (more info)

B. Home

The homes we live in are responsible for about a third of our global warming pollution in the U.S.

Replace your frequently used lightbulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. (more info)
Install an Energy Star programmable thermostat. (more info)
Purchase Energy Star appliances when the time comes to buy new ones. (more info)
Seal window and door leaks and insulate your attic properly. (more info)
Insulate your hot water tank. Set the thermostat to 120 degrees F. (more info)

Maintain your heating and cooling system. Schedule a pre-season tune-up by a licensed professional and change filters regularly. (more info)

C. Church and Society

As Christians we know that everyone has a role to play in creating the type of world God wants. In addressing a problem like global warming, it is not just individuals that must take action. Our leaders must also take action. Your part as an individual is to encourage them to do so.

Talk to your pastor about a Christian approach to global warming and the "Cooling Creation" campaign. (more info)
